Welcome to a new school year at Hoopeston Area,
The beginning of the 2023/2024 school year is here and we hope you had a wonderful summer. We would like to share some of the improvements we have accomplished over the summer. We thank everyone who helped us with updates this summer, we have a fantastic team.
We have added some new positions to our district staff to better serve our students and families.
Terra Williamson will be serving as our English as a second Language teacher throughout the district.
A District nurse is being hired to work at all school buildings to assist in serving the health needs of students throughout the day.
HACUSD #11 has entered into an agreement with the City of Hoopeston for a School Resource Officer to serve at the schools throughout the year.
Our administrators have done a great job of locating some great new teachers to serve our students. We are nearly fully staffed with certified teachers. Administration will continue to search out certified individuals to fill openings as they occur.
Here are some of the improvements within the district for safety, convenience and comfort of our students, staff, and community members:
Maple and John Greer restrooms have been remodeled with new partition walls and floor tiles to better serve our students. To assist our youngest students, hand dryers have been replaced at Maple to further encourage proper hand washing and drying.
New slides are being installed to replace worn-out devices, and new benches have been installed in the playground areas of Maple and John Greer.
New Vinyl floor tile has been installed in the corridors at Hoopeston Area Middle School.
To ensure safety new parking lot bollards have been installed in front of the new cafeteria addition.
A new coat of paint has been applied to the benches at HAMS and HAHS.
New landscaping of the flower beds ensures a clean and attractive look to the buildings.
New stadium bleachers have been installed in the athletic complex. The bleachers feature ADA accessibility, including a ramp to provide access, cutouts in the front row of the bleachers to allow access for wheelchairs or mobility aids, and hard surfaces up to the ramp.
The older goal posts have been replaced and upgraded.
Landscaping has been installed and the ticket booth/marketing store has been refurbished to serve student and community needs, including a space for storage and display of Cornjerker apparel at athletic events.
School zone signage and beacons with speed indicators have been installed on Orange Street, and crosswalk signs with flashing indicators will be installed soon.
In-Town bus routes will run again this year, stops will be the same as last year with needed adjustments being published on the District website.
New gym bleachers and a newly refinished gym floor have been added in the Middle School gym to provide safe and comfortable seating for our indoor athletic events.
Countless hours of cleaning, removing and rebuilding have taken place throughout the summer months. Thank you to the custodial and summer crew for their efforts to make our facilities clean, updated, and beautiful.
