Mrs. Karen Romig

A love for reading and learning at an early age led Karen Romig to know that becoming an educator was in her future.  After growing up in southern Illinois, she headed off to a co-op program with Lincoln Christian University and Illinois State University where she earned double Bachelor’s Degrees.  Karen’s certificate in English Secondary Education allowed her to teach at the middle school and high school levels which she did in four different states as she traveled with her husband who was serving in the military.  Also, during their travels Karen taught and served as Director of Education at Sylvan Learning Centers in three of those states.  In 2010 she entered graduate school at Benedictine University and earned her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Education with a Reading Specialty.  In the fall of 2012, Karen began working as Reading Specialist at HAMS and has thoroughly enjoyed this new role with teenagers.

During the school year Karen enjoys attending her daughter’s marching band and show choir activities.  She spends her summer reading young adult novels to stay current with her students.  Other hobbies include playing tennis in two leagues, playing piano, and watching Cardinals baseball.  Karen’s philosophy in life is centered around treating others like she would like to be treated and being a lifelong learner.
