English Language Arts

Mallory Tennill


Ms. Houghton teaches 8th grade English Language Arts and the Honors class. She grew up in Chicago and knew she wanted to be a teacher in first grade. In 2006 she graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor's degree in English and a minor in History. In 2008 she finished her Master's degree in Education. Ms. Houghton has been teaching at HAMS since 2011 and has loved pretty much every second of it, even her hour-long drive from Champaign everyday (except when she ends up in a ditch). She loves pictures, peanut butter, and Harry Potter.

Diana Judy


Mrs. Judy teaches 7th Grade Language Arts at HAMS. She graduated with honors from Manteno High School in 2004.  Mrs. Judy attended Olivet Nazarene University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2008.  In June of 2014, she received her Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist, also from Olivet Nazarene University.  Mrs. Judy is currently the Co-Student Council and Co-WEB Sponsor for HAMS and the Drama Director for HAHS where she has worked since 2009.  She currently resides in Hoopeston with her husband, Dwight whom she met while doing theatre in Cissna Park, IL.

Mrs. Ellisa Krumweide


Elissa Krumwiede is originally from Champaign, Illinois, but now resides in rural Cissna Park with her husband, Derek, and daughter, Tara. She graduated with a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in May 2005. Mrs. Krumwiede has had the opportunity to teach kindergarten, first grade, and sixth through eighth grades in Danville, followed by instructing fifth through eighth graders in Woodworth. More recently, Elissa taught kindergarten in Paxton before returning to the middle grades of her current position, seventh grade English/Language Arts teacher for Hoopeston Area Middle School.

Mr. Nick Petersen


Mr. Petersen teaches 8th grade English Language Arts. He grew up in the Northwest Chicago Suburbs. He graduated from Roosevelt University with a Bachelor's degree in English, a middle school endorsement, and an ESL endorsement in 2014. For several years he taught ELL students of various levels, as well as different grades of high school English. He enjoys incorporating games into lesson plans, believing that fun activities spark student interest in the material. In his spare time he enjoys reading, cooking, and shopping for books.
