Art Education

Mr. Carl Ankenbrand

Mr. Ankenbrand is originally from rural Mt. Carmel, Illinois, I grew up on a farm which consisted of 250 acres.  I attended Mt. Carmel High School (home of the Golden Aces).  I received an Associate of Science degree from Wabash Valley College and a Bachelor of Science degree in studio art w/K-12 Illinois certification from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.  I was hired by CUSD #11 to teach high school art in August of 1995.  The Fall of 2006 I started teaching art at Maple, Honeywell, and John Greer Grade Schools in the Hoopeston Area School District.  I teach roughly 680 students each week.  I am also employed as the Asst. High School Wrestling Coach and District Photographer.

My wife Kelly is a Cornjerker, and is employed at HAHS/HAMS as the technology teacher.  She has two children from a previous marriage - Nathan and Sam.  We have a daughter together, Taylor Madisyn, and a dog Coco.

When I am not teaching art to the youth in Hoopeston I can be found walking my dog every morning and in the weight room or spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, especially along the Bonpas Creek in Wabash County, Illinois, and coaching my daughter in fast-pitch softball.

K-6 Social Worker

Mrs. Kim Bergstedt

My name is Kim Bergstedt and the 2016-2017 school year will be my first year employed by the Hoopeston Area School District as the K-6 School Social Worker. I received my Master's Degree in School Social Work from the University of Illinois. I have previously worked as a Teaching Assistant and School Social Worker for other school districts in the area. I love to travel and spend time with my family and friends. I look forward to being a team-player and serving the students of the Hoopeston Area School District!

Mrs. Robin Eighner


Mrs. Robin Eighner began working as a school psychologist in 1995 following graduation from Eastern Illinois University.  She grew up in Hoopeston and now lives in Rankin with her husband and two children.  She enjoys spending time with her family.

Mrs. Jodie Havens

Hello!  My name is Jodie Havens.  I grew up in Sheldon, Illinois, and currently reside there with my husband Bryan, our son Evan, and our daughter Leah.

After receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Illinois State University in 2006, I began my career at Maple Grade School as a Speech-Language Paraprofessional.  After two years of teaching, I returned to Illinois State University where I received my Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I have been providing speech therapy services for 8 years at Maple and love it!

Mr. Logan Patton

I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education with a minor in health education. I was recruited by EIU to wrestle for their program before it was dropped during my freshman year. That is when I got involved in coaching. I have been coaching wrestling since 2010; this will be my 4th season as the Hoopeston Area High School head coach. Along with coaching wrestling at the high school, I am the Hoopeston Area youth wrestling coach. I have also coached on Team Illinois National Wrestling Teams, and had multiple students of our own Hoopeston wrestlers on those teams.

When I am not at the school or practice, I love to spend my time outdoors or in the gym. I love to deer hunt and fish with my father and brother. I am a big sports enthusiast. I can watch any sport. I am a big fan of Notre Dame, Bears, Braves, Blackhawks, and Bulls. I look forward continuing to teach at Maple Elementary since 2013! Go Cornjerkers!

Miss Rochelle Morgeson


Hello! My name is Rochelle Morgeson. This is my second year teaching 1st and 2nd grade general music at Maple Grade School. I am also in my 6th year at Hoopeston Area Middle School and High School teaching Middle School Concert Choir and High School Varsity Choir. I also direct the Middle School show choir, "Cornjerker Connection", and the High School show choir, "New Direction"!

I am originally from Hoopeston, Illinois and graduated with the class of 2006. I am truly blessed to be working in the same district I grew up in! I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. I also took my practicum and student teaching in K-6 Elementary Music. For my free time I enjoy creating my own music.

I am an avid songwriter and love to sing/perform whenever I get the opportunity! I also love to attend music concerts of every type. I am proud to call myself a Cornjerker from birth! I look forward to a great year with the Maple students!

Miss Jacy Samet

Hello, my name is Jacy Samet. I teach in the Learning Resource Classroom at Maple Grade Center. I am a 2011 graduate of Hoopeston Area High School. I continued my education at Eastern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching Special Education grades K-12 and in Elementary Education grades K-6 in May of 2016.

When I am not at school teaching, I love to spend time with my family and friends here in Hoopeston and to play with my new puppy, Harlee! She is a German Shephard and Husky mix and keeps me very busy. I am excited to start my teaching career here in Hoopeston. I am ready to start teaching alongside so many wonderful teachers and to meet my amazing students for this coming school year!

J. Stump

Mrs. Julie Stump

Mrs. Stump grew up in McLean County in the small town of Carlock.  She graduated from Normal Community High School.  She was involved in Contest Choir, for her involvement in musicals and plays, she was inducted into the Thespian Society and earned her Thespian pin.  She attended Eureka College.  There she auditioned for and received a place in the Eureka College Chorale.  After earning her Bachelor Degree, she moved to Hoopeston and has taught morning and afternoon Kindergarten, Fourth Grade, Third Grade, Second Grade, and All-Day Kindergarten.  She currently is Maple School’s Title One Teacher where she teaches reading (reading, phonics, and writing) and math.

Mrs. Stump has been involved with the community in many ways such as a Girl Scout leader, an elder at her church, a member of H.E.A, and President of Hoopeston Rotary to name a few.  She and her husband, Ray, enjoy movies.  They were married at Mann’s Chapel near Rossville, and had their reception at The Lorraine Theatre in Hoopeston.

Mrs. Stump loves teaching, reading, watching TV, and spending time with Luna, Katniss, and Elsa (her cats).

Ms. Sara Troxel

My name is Sara Troxel and I teach Primary Special Education in the Multi-Grade Classroom at Maple Grade Center.  I grew up in Rankin and graduated from Rankin Township High School.  In 1983, I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Elementary and Special Education.  I have been teaching special education since that time.  I have taught at Warren Central, Georgetown-Ridge Farm, Armstrong-Ellis, Illinois State University (Metcalf Lab School), and at Hoopeston.

I live in Hoopeston and enjoy being part of the community and school district.  I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and doing puzzles.  I enjoy working with the students in Hoopeston and watching the excitement they express as they accomplish new skills.

Mrs. Kaylie Polsean

Hi there! I am Kaylie Polsean. I grew up in a small town in northern Illinois west of Rockford. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with my Bachelor's Degree (2014) and Master's Degree (2016) in Communication Disorders and Science. My husband and I currently live in Champaign.

This school year is my first year working as a speech-language pathologist, and I am very excited to be spending 3 days a week working at Maple Elementary. The students are so fun to work with, and the staff has been so welcoming.

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our friends. We also like to travel and visit new places together.

Sara McTaggart

Hello! My name is Sara McTaggart, and I am one of the Speech-Language Pathologists for the preschool programs here at Maple. I am employed by VASE and also work at Rossville-Alvin Grade School. I received my Bachelor and Master Degrees in Communication Science and Disorders from Illinois State University in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

I was born and raised on a farm in rural Milford, so I am a farm girl at heart. I graduated from Milford High School in 2008. I was married in 2015, and my husband, Nathan, and I live in rural Watseka with our two dogs, a black lab named Cash, and toy poodle named Bentley. Nathan is a farmer, and we enjoy being outside and spending time with our families and two nephews.

I am excited to be at Maple and to make a difference in the lives of our youth!


VASE Occupational Therapist Assistant

Kristi Hudson

Hi! I'm Kristi Hudson, the Occupational Therapy Assistant who serves Hoopeston schools. I am a proud Cornjerker graduate, and I am thrilled to get to spend part of my week here! My husband, Scott, and I chose to live here in town so we could raise Cornjerkers, too. Sam is in 9th grade at Hoopeston Area High School, and Sean is a 5th grader at John Greer Grade School.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Anatomical Sciences from the University of Illinois, and I completed my training in Occupational Therapy at Parkland College. I came to work for Vermilion Association for Special Education after graduation, and that sends me to Rossville, Potomac, Oakwood, Bismarck, Armstrong, and Middlefork schools weekly, too!

In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, watching the boys play sports and music, watching the Cubs and Illini, performing in area theatre productions, swimming and, for the first time, chasing after the family dog, Raven.


VASE Physical Therapist Assistant

Cara Garmon

I'm Cara Garmon, the Physical Therapist Assistant serving Hoopeston and all Vermilion County schools.  I grew up east of Hoopeston, attended school in Rossville, and graduated from Lake Land College in Mattoon in 1999.  This is my 16th year at VASE providing PT services to the special children of Vermilion County.

I have an 11 year old son who keeps busy with sports, band, and schoolwork.  I'm active in the PTO, Booster Club, and attending my son's events.  I love to travel and spend my summers on adventures of any kind.  Although I've lived other places, it makes me happy that my son gets to grow up in the same small town I did.

I love all aspects of my job, but I have a special interest in assistive technology and using it to increase a child's ability to perform life skills and leisure activities.


VASE Social Worker

Mr. Jesús Yépez

Hello, my name is Jesús Yépez, and I am the new social worker from VASE here at Maple Grade School. I just started on October 3rd, and I am very excited to be here working with the students and staff. I currently live in Urbana, but I am originally from Chicago. My family and I moved to Urbana about 19 years ago. I have been a school social worker for 13 years, and was an elementary school teacher for six years before that. I am the oldest of 6 children and come from a very large extended family. My parents and I came from a small town in west central Mexico and settled in Chicago, Illinois, when I was just one year old.

I love outdoor activities like bicycling, hiking, canoeing and camping. I also love to travel and getting to explore new places both here in the U.S. and in Mexico. I have three daughters that I love spending time with: Liliana (age 21), Magdalena (age 16) and Grace (age 15). I also have two cats at home, named Butternut and Pippin. I am here and ready to work with all of the students and staff at Maple School!
