 2nd Grade Teacher

Mrs. Amanda Garrell

Hello! My name is Amanda Garrell, and I am from Paxton. I currently live there with my husband, Josh. We have one daughter, Kinley, who was born in June 2016. We also have two dogs, a Beagle and a Japanese Chin.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009. I previously taught first grade in another school district. I started at Maple Elementary in 2012, and there is nowhere else I’d rather be. I love coming to work every day to watch children grow and become successful learners.

During my free time I enjoy being with my family and friends. I also love to walk our dogs, ride bikes, swim, and travel to new places.

2nd Grade Teacher

Ms. Jill Caughron

Hi! My name is Jill Caughron.  I grew up Bloomington-Normal with two loving parents, a big sister, and younger brother.  While I grew up in such a large area compared to Hoopeston, I was fortunate enough to attend a small community school.  I moved to Hoopeston at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.  I have two dogs, Wrigley and Addison, that I adopted from Rescuing Animals In Need (R.A.I.N.), and I also have a guinea pig named Trixie.

I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University in May of 2012.  I previously taught 3rd grade at Honeywell School, but I am really excited to be at Maple School where I can teach my favorite age group.  I also coach middle school cheerleading and have a lot of fun working with the girls and cheering on our Cornjerkers.

Outside of school, I am very active.  I enjoy working at a Bloomington-Normal pool in the summer where I get to swim to my heart’s content.  I also love spending time with my friends and dogs and I am constantly outside.  I love sports and am a big fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball, Chicago Bears football, and Iowa Hawkeyes college football.

2nd Grade Teacher

Miss Beth Schafer

Hello! My name is Beth Schafer. I grew up in a town about an hour north of here called Chebanse. Currently though, I live on Lake Iroquois in Loda. In March 2017 I will be getting married and will become Mrs. Garrison! I've already had several students tell me they are still going to call me Miss Schafer though and that is OK! :-)

I graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Marketing and Professional Sales. I landed a job right out of college and quickly discovered that the career path I had chosen was not for me. I decided to move home, substitute teach and found what I should have chosen as my career. I enrolled at Olivet Nazarene University and now have my Masters of Arts in Teaching degree. I am very excited to be at Maple in second grade!

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, being outside, and boating! I am so grateful for how welcome this community has made me feel these past few years!

B. Weston

2nd Grade Teacher

Mrs. Brenda Weston

Hi! I am Brenda Weston. I teach second grade at Maple Grade School. I have had the privilege to teach many students in our district. Most of my teaching career has been at Maple, but I got to teach third grade at Honeywell Grade School and Junior First Grade at John Greer Grade School when I first started teaching. All in all, I have taught over 26 years in Hoopeston, and still TOTALLY LOVE WHAT I GET TO DO!!

After graduating from Rossville High School, I attended the University of Illinois to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Then, because I wanted to learn more about the best ways to teach children, I went on to receive my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Olivet Nazarene University.

If I’m not at school, you will probably find me with my family. My husband, Jim, our daughters Beth and Katie, and I live on a farm outside of Rossville. Beth is a graduate student at the University of Illinois and Katie is a student at Hoopeston Area High School. For fun, I love to hang out with my family and friends, read, make crafts, and learn new things.

It is an honor and blessing to be able to teach the children in this district. Working alongside of families in raising young people who have a passion for learning and helping others is my privilege. (If I had the joy of teaching you - - be sure to come by and say Hi! sometime and let me know how you are doing!!)
